The Penny Black Remedy

The Penny Black Remedy may well be the Capital’s premier rootsy party band.’ - Q Magazine

With their high octane live sets and unique musical fusion of Americana, Punk, Folk and Ska, The Penny Black Remedy have been thrilling crowds across the UK and the rest of Europe since the band’s inception in London in 2007. Their live performances, as forceful as party political campaign rallies, but unlike those – honest to the core, have seen them build a fiercely loyal following, a hardcore of whom happily travel many miles and crossing many borders to see them. Songwriter Keith M Thomson’s fine blend of darkly humorous lyrics and joyful life affirming melodies have enticed diverse, international, audiences to fully engage in their distinctively interactive shows by enthusiastically singing-along to every word.

Some of The Penny Black Remedy’s highlights so far have included: winning Best Alternative Act at the UK Indy Awards. Sharing bills with bands such as the Buzzcocks, Fishbone, Asian Dub Foundation and Croatian Surf band, The Bambi Molesters. Live acoustic sessions on BBC Radio Five Live and Resonance FM. Airplay on BBC Radio 2 and Radio 6 (including ‘Song Title of the Week’ with Steve Lamacq). Being voted by the audience in the ‘top 3 best acts’ at Larmer Tree Festival. Solid festival track-record, such as: Glastonbury, The Secret Garden Party, Bestival and Larmer Tree in the UK, The Valkhoff Affaire and Coninex Pop in Holland, Fusion Festival in Germany and SeaRock Festival in Montenegro. The Guardian newspaper claimed their song, ‘I Won’t Argue When I’m Dead’, as “Quite simply, the finest country sing-along I’ve heard on the vexed pop topic of how one’s body should be disposed of after death”.

Second album ‘Inhale… Exhale… OK, Now You Can Panic!’ was released in July 2013 to rave reviews from major music press including Q, Uncut, Rock’n’Reel Magazine, The Daily Mirror and Americana UK. The band continue to tour whilst writing and recording the material for their third, eagerly anticipated offering. Watch this space…
